Putting in the Miles for Macmillan
Two members of Concept staff have raised £500 doing a sponsored walk in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. The walk took place on Wednesday 8th September and is part of the 'Miles for Macmillan' charity campaign organised by Boots the Chemist.
Our intrepid explorers Matt Gilmartin and Gavin Lakey joined fellow walkers from Boots on a tricky Lake District leg of the infamous Coast to Coast Walk. The 18 mile journey from Rothswaite to Patterdale is considered one of the more difficult parts of the route. This difficulty is largely offset by the staggering beauty of the setting; waterfalls, gulleys, fabulously undulating hills (coming from Lincolnshire this means positively mountainous) topped with beautiful mirror-like tarns.
Armed with goretex and an OS map, Matt and Gavin confidently strode their way towards their goal and were among the final four to reach the finish post. Their rigorous training schedule had proved invaluable.
The Coast to Coast is one of the world’s great walks and gives the perfect snapshot of England at her most picturesque. It is a journey on foot from St. Bees Head on the Irish Sea to Robin's Hood Bay on the North Sea, the route crossing the Lake District and the Pennines into Swaledale and ending with a traverse of the Cleveland Hills and the North York Moors.
